In order that the following information not be dismissed out-of-hand, it is necessary to have an open mind. It is important to consider that common knowledge may be incomplete, and that the truth as seen from a particular point of view may not reflect the full reality. No one knows what may be discovered and known, or if there are limits to discovery and knowledge. What follows is not new, however. It is drawn from a body of knowledge called the Ageless Wisdom teachings. These teachings are not a product of any one person, nor confined to any particular group. Instead, they have been passed along by word of mouth, and in writing, for countless generations. They are said to underlie all the world's religions, and all scientific, social, and cultural achievements. In the past century they have been most readily available to those in the Western world through the writings of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Alice A. Bailey, Helena Roerich, and, in recent years, Benjamin Creme.

The evolutionary urge of the human being, that irresistible impulse to push forward along the Lighted Way "from darkness into light, from the unreal to the real, and from death to immortality", is a divine attribute inherent in all created forms and for which the human mind can give no satisfactory explanation. The life of the evolving personality may be divided into five progressive steps, which are determined by the condition of the indwelling spiritual flame and the quality of the light that is being radiated.

The process of evolution takes place alike on individual, planetary and on cosmic levels. As we progress in this, the human kingdom, we shall recognize that it is a very important kingdom in the scheme of this planet but is nevertheless a transitional phase between the animal and the spiritual kingdoms, and that the evolutionary journey which each of us is making takes place under laws which govern throughout cosmos. There is nothing in the whole of cosmos which, under the law of correspondences, is not proceeding under these same laws of evolution. The basic impulse behind all evolution is that activity of the soul in incarnation which we call service. Service is nothing less than the demonstration in relationship of the Law of Love. It is the Love of God for Its creation which impels the Logos Itself to take incarnation and to demonstrate Itself through Its Body, planet Earth, with all the kingdoms, including ourselves.
